Founded by Melissa and Chris
Thorsen on August
3rd 2002, Thorsen Motorsports was established to serve
greater Santa Maria as a one-stop motorcycle shop. The 1000
square foot retail showroom and 400 square foot service area
was filled with the bare essentials necessary for the family
weekend ride. It was a small yet beautiful store. Within the
first year, meetings with Suzuki had begun but the store was
in no shape to add such a large lineup. It was just too small. By the time Suzuki came aboard in November 2004, the store
had doubled in size twice and two different addresses. With
the success of the Suzuki line in the store, the opportunity
of selling Kawasaki was presented. Our excitement was brewing
and when the appointed date arrived to meet with the Kawasaki
representatives, the entire Thorsen staff eagerly greeted
them with green hair. We were ready to sell Kawasaki's. Within three and a half years, Thorsen Motorsports has grown
to over 9200 square feet and added Suzuki and Kawasaki to
their lineup. |

CHRIS THORSEN - Biography My first bike purchase was a 1991 Suzuki GSXR1100
that I rode regardless of weather or grocery load. We were
a great team. Everything powersports related was the weekends
events for a year and a half. In 1992, a broken back kept
me at bay for roughly four months. I rebounded and did what
every motorcyclist should do after a near disastrous injury,
I went road racing. The next five years would be the most
exciting, painful, tiring, rewarding and the most expensive
times in my life. In 1993, I bought a used1991 GSXR750 and took to the track.
Wow, these guys are fast. Either hang it up or learn to do
what they do. I was a quick study and quickly got up to speed
with very limited success. I needed better equipment. The
all new and improved 1994 GSXR750 was to be my new steed.
It was better, much better. In it's first race at Sears
Point, it found it's way up to fifth place by the second
lap. By the third lap, I found the hay bails outside of turn
ten. It was to be a tough year. I did, however, manage to
win my first race later in the season. |

| In1996, the redesigned GSXR750 was now under me and was invited
to join Rohm Performance Machine (RPM) as their third rider.
We had a great team with veteran racer Rob Mesa and the two newcomers,
Cory Call and me. That year I won the Formula 1 Championship
and a third place overall in the Superbike class. 1997 third
superbike and number 5 plate for the season. |
